What is Trigger Point Therapy?

Over the years, there have been many theories put forth as to why people experience back pain. Some of these
theories state that is not entirely our physical form that is causing as pain, but rather the blockage of chi or energy in our bodies. There are also some that point out that it is a lack of nutrition in our bodies.
One more theory that is slowly gaining popularity is that the pain in our body is caused by a trigger point. A trigger point is explained as a hyperirritable spot in the skeletal muscle that is associated with palpable nodules in taut bands of muscle fibers. Basically, these palpable nodules are small contraction knots that cause us pain during regular muscle movement. The pain then is not even restricted to the area where the knot is but rather moves to other areas that are even quite distant from it.
As such, to be able to counter this pain, the people believe that one should undergo trigger point therapy that would target these specific points.
This pressure is received from the therapist who would use his or her hands to massage you and apply that sustained pressure on the area for a set period of time on a regular basis. They hope that by doing this the knotted up area would soon clear up and make your pain go away.
To know this, the therapist would ask you first about your condition. He or she would ask you the parts where you feel pain. They would then consult their knowledge about the different trigger point pain patterns to know what part of the body the trigger point is located.
The trigger point pain pattern is something that allows practitioners to associate pain in one location with trigger points elsewhere.
This shows just how important it is to get a good trigger point therapist before engaging in the activity. Another reason it is important is that improper treatment could actually lead to damage to your soft tissue or even to your internal organs.
