When people feel tender points throughout their body, (tender points being places on the neck, shoulders, back, arms or legs that because of pressure being applied to it) they would just usually attribute it to being bruised and battered by the regular hustle and bustle of their daily life.
Additionally, these same people would also have some trouble in sleeping, morning stiffness, and headaches, but again consider it as just a side effect of their day to day activities. While this may be true in some instances, they might be skipping over the fact that they already have a condition called Fibromyalgia.
What is Fibromyalgia?
Fibromyalgia is a condition that affects the muscles of the body, especially those at the neck and back. It is often characterized by chronic widespread pain and allodynia, which is a heightened and painful response even to slight pressure.
Unlike other muscular conditions however, people who suffer from fibromyalgia doesn’t have inflamed tissues or joints that cause them pain.
How is Fibromyalgia caused?
The thing with this condition is that people are not really sure what causes it. As of now, there are few scientific proofs regarding the causes of the condition. With that said, one of the things that people are saying as the culprit of Fibromyalgia is the imbalances in the body.
These imbalances can range from stress levels, hormone levels, and nutritional level. Other causes of fibromyalgia could also include psychological factors, trauma, and improper surgical procedures.
What are the Common Treatments?
The most common treatments with regard to Fibromyalgia would be taking or applying some form of medication. This is because the most common manifestations of this condition are pain and difficulty in sleeping. As such, people would usually take pain killers or applying topical creams in the local areas to dull the pain, and then ingesting sleeping pills to solve their difficulties in sleeping. Other treatments would also include getting massages and staying in a hot tub to help improve circulation.
However, the problem with this is that these treatments are merely reactionary measures to the discomforts that they are feeling. They rarely do anything to help prevent fibromyalgia from happening again.
What can I do right now to help myself feel better?
The best way to start feeling better from Fibromyalgia would be to try and learn more about it. If you are aware of the condition, then you would be able to know the lifestyle changes that you must make, things that you should avoid as well as the things that you should do, in order to improve your condition.
You should also try to have a more balanced life in all its aspects. This means controlling your stress levels, changing your diet to become healthier, and even doing some exercises and therapies such as muscle balance therapy, to help improve your body.
By ensuring that you have a healthy body, there is a higher chance that you would not have to suffer from fibromyalgia.
