When people feel some form of back pain, especially those chronic sufferers, one of their primary sources of relief would be to go to a physical therapy and get some treatment. Many people have felt that their recovery from back pain has been brought about by the sessions that they do with a therapist.

With that said, not many people know just how physical therapy is actually able to help in giving relief from back pain. Even the people who get regular treatments and schedule sessions often are not fully aware of how physical therapy aids in back pain.

TO be able to understand how physical therapy helps back pain sufferers, it would be important to know the different goals of physical therapy is. These goals would help you understand why physical therapists ask you to do the motions and exercises:

Applying Proper conditioning to your body:

One of the reasons for people sustaining injuries to their backs and other muscles is that they are not able to handle the stress that we put through them because they are not conditioned  enough to do so. That’s why the physical therapists would try to apply the proper conditioning techniques so that the muscles would be strengthened and stretched enough to handle any activity.

These also includes the important warm up and cool down exercises that ensure that your muscles and joints would be able to still be in peak condition after using them excessively for your physical activities.

Taking full advantage of muscle Flexibility and your full range of motion

Another issue that causes many people to feel some sort of back pain would be the lack of flexibility in their muscles. This is especially true for people who participate in sport activities that would require a lot of exertion from their back muscles.

When your back muscles are stiff or not able to utilize its full range of motion, they would incur additional stress when you try to engage them for your sport. You would need to make them more flexible so that they would be able to tolerate more forms and movement. As such, physical therapy would give you stretching exercises that would enable you to do so.

Nurse your injuries and aid recovery:

If one’s back is injured, then there would of course be some pain in that area. Unfortunately, when there is pain some people would try to avoid putting any strength or weight or effort in it so that they would be able to feel comfortable.

This can lead to complications such as the muscles becoming too weak once your condition is treated. That’s why another goal of physical therapists would be to nurse your injuries and get them back to full strength.
